~Oil on canvas
approx. 32" wide

I finished it, but I really liked the underpainting, so here's a link to it before I painted some more

[link]

[I thought I'd mention, on the actual canvas, there's no tangent with the far left's dogs nose and the edge. The photo was tilted, and to crop it I had to pull it in.]

Spent about two hours on it, but I simply souldn't resist painting this beautiful picture by SaNNa. (Seriously, give them some love, look at that pictures. just FFFFF-) I still like the photo waaay more.

It literally kept me awake at night, so I finally painted it last night. The colors got a little messed up when i took a picture, but not too much, it really does have the much blue and yellow in it. I stole their title because I'm not creative D: IS SORRY

[Don't intend to made any money off this or reproduce it in respect to the photo referenced. This was purely for me.]

It's really cool to look at the original photo that you painted from to see how much you changed the color. The colors you chose really have a great effect!

I used a wet ground and didn't rub it down, so the blue really mingled into everything. I actually really like that technique. I also seem to hate cleaning my brush XD I just put more paint until it's the right color lol

~Thanks XD

It would be perfect, but these huge white spots on ears look too heavy and they ruin a bit the whole composition. In painting we carefuly use white colour and we never use black, which is reserved for graphic. However I love the atmosphere of this picture.

I'm aware lol I'm waiting for it to dry before I go in and tone it down. As far as black goes, Spanish palettes like with Sargent use it, and I personally like using it too.

I meant usage of "raw" black, directly from the tube ;) Most great artists mix various colours to get really dark and deep shade of blue, brown, green, purple, etc, according to a theory, that pure white or black doesn't exist in the nature. Colours of the other objects and lights always affect whiteness and black. Of course this rule refers mostly to traditional, realistic art. ;)

I'm in my fourth year of art college, I know that C:> but in this picture I also used pthalo and prussian blue with burnt umber and burnt sienna to make the black. The straight white in this isn't actually white, it's my iphone taking a cruddy picture. In reality it's yellow ochre and white toned down with some prussian blue. Sargent is a great artist, and he used ivory black, but that's not the point, the point is that there is no rule to painting, just guidelines and different methods.

I like the "blue" palette you used in this picture. And I realize that paintings "transformed" into digital pictures look much different, they lose their real texture unfortunately. I truly believe you know such basic technical terms and rules of art like the one I mentioned. Yes, rules, you read correctly, every school of painting has it's rules, that's why we call one type of paintings an abstract art and the other one impressionism or cubism. You can learn that studying history and theory of art. I hope you have such classes in your college. Ok, I won't be bothering you with my comments anymore :D Keep learning girl! Good luck and good inspiration in everything you do. :)
